Opaline Vase with Parrot Relief, Pressed Glass

A bulbous vase in opalised milk glass with a fully three-dimensional relief decoration of parrots among leafy branches, executed in rich frosted glass. Similar vases were produced by René Lalique and other French glass artists of the 1920s and 1930s; the parrot motif was a popular decorative theme in the Art Déco era, influenced by the period's fascination with exoticism. The opalescent milky surface combined with the high-relief decoration makes this vase a characteristic piece of French glass craft.
